New Directions

Hi.  This is just a test entry in the Need4Mercy blog.  I must admit I’m new to blogging and hadn’t planned on starting one.  But sometimes a change in direction is exactly what we need.  A change of direction can take us on a road to discovery and a new life.

While on vacation once, we rented a car to drive on the backroads of beautiful British Columbia.  My parents sat int he front; and me and my brothers sat in the back.

Dad was driving along when he saw a dirt road angling to the right with the correct highway numer posted.  Mom said, “Surely that isn’t the main road.  Maybe the sign was turned?  Look, the road straight ahead is paved and lined with utility poles too.”

After a lighthearted discussion, our family took a vote and decided to stay on what appeared to be the main highway.  After driving for miles and cresting a small hill, suddenly all we could see was water,a few small buildings, and a campground sign.  The road came to a dead end there at a lovely lake and campsite.  The family began laughing as Dad wheeled the car around and headed back to the dirt road turn we passed.  Eventually, the humble highway meandered into the most magnificent scenery of all.

In life, we could easily stay on the broad, paved road and mindlessly travel to the dead end that most people seem to be heading towards.  Or we could turn around, change our thinking and our plans, and turn down the narrow road to the Cross and worship the King.  Which do you choose?

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”  Matthew 7:13-14 NIV
